‘Positive Change in Education Can Fulfill the Aspirations of the July Uprising’: RUET Observes July Mass Uprising Day with Various Events

Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology (RUET) observed July Mass Uprising Day on Tuesday, August 5, with a series of programs to commemorate the historic movement. The university administration organized day-long events involving students, teachers, officers, and staff, including a victory rally, foundation stone laying of the July Memorial, discussion sessions, prize distribution, food distribution among orphans, and special prayers.

The day's events began at 10:00 AM with a victory rally in remembrance of the July Uprising. Starting from the administrative building, the rally paraded through key roads of the campus, passed Talaimari intersection, and concluded at the central library premises. There, the foundation stone of the July Memorial was formally laid by RUET Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. S M Abdur Razzak, in the presence of faculty members, students, officers, and staff.

Following the rally, a discussion session was held at the university’s hall room. Speaking as the chief guest, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. S M Abdur Razzak, stated,

“We must learn from the spirit of the July Movement. If we can bring positive changes to every educational institution in Bangladesh, and if universities take the lead in that transformation, the dreams and aspirations of the students behind the July Movement can surely be fulfilled.”

Prizes were then distributed among winners of the July Memorial Design Competition. The first prize was jointly awarded to Ilma Kamal, Nishat Sal Sabeel, and Sumaiya Binte Zaman. Md. Sajjadul Islam won second place, while the third prize was jointly awarded to Rabiul Islam Rimon, Farah Jamal, and Godhuli Mostafa.

Winners of the Central Pond Landscape Design Competition were also honored. Awardees included: Sadia Sultana Arifa, Fatematuj Zohra, Mahfuzul Islam Dibbya, Antora Poddar, Md. Rafiul Islam, Faria Kamal Momo, Faisal Ahmed, Sadia Muntaha Saimum, Subrin Sharmin Ritu, Zahidur Rahman Sajib, Mahmudul Hasan Palash, Adib Hossain Dhrubo, Promiti Prova Biswas, Nusrat Jahan, Anjil Siddique, and Sourav Byapari.

The event was presided over by Professor Dr. Md. Rabiul Islam Sarker, Director of the Office of Students' Welfare. Special guests included Professor Dr. Md. Nurul Islam, Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering; Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Kader Zilani, Dean of the Faculty of Applied Science and Humanities; Professor Dr. Md. Mosharraf Hossain, Head of the Department of Industrial & Production Engineering (IPE); and Arif Ahammad Chowdhury, Acting Registrar. Participants of the original July movement also shared their memories during the discussion. Faculty members, students, officers, and staff from different departments were present.

Later in the day, a special prayer session was held at the Central Jame Mosque after Zuhur prayers, seeking eternal peace for the martyrs of the July Movement and the recovery of the injured. Additionally, nutritious meals were distributed among orphans at local orphanages.

To mark the occasion, the university’s administrative buildings, main gate, and high-rise facilities were beautifully illuminated with decorative lighting.
